The Long Good Friday 003

The Long Good Friday is a continuing weekly column that tries to thematically or tangentially link together three varying films that would make one hell of an evening at the home theater. Most of these flicks are readily available from Netflix, Blockbuster or Amazon, and some are even available on demand. This is our attempt at a gateway drug to irresponsible movie-watching

1.) The Stuff

Yeah, on the surface it’s about yogurt that kills you but good. It’s also a damn effective indictment of marketing and mass consumerism. You will learn a lesson in greed and capitalism through the soggy lens of killer yogurt. This kind of filmmaking is more necessary now than it has ever been. The stuff only hints at the crappy existence we are faced with today. Plus, we would get to see insufferable starlets suffocated by sentient sweets. 2.) Q: The Winged Serpent

Cloverfield promised a lot, and delivered little. Yet, it was a pretty massive success. And in the days since its launch, we have yet to see another giant monster movie. What better way to give New York something to regret than bringing in a GOD from the Aztecs? Sure, they’re no Mayans, but I’d wager studio executives could still push this as a 2012 end-of-existence tie-in. On top of all that, the main character is a jerk thief who is not above sacrificing the well being of an entire city so he can get a huge payday. There is a lack of huge buildings getting crushed by huger monsters nowadays. This can be remedied.

3.) It’s Alive

Oh, wait… Well… hopefully it’ll be better than GRACE. We need some more damage dealing babies after that bunk.
