I would agree that the movie works because of the characters not the jokes they tell. Life is funny and sad and happy and infuriating because that's they way people are. And Kevin Smith captures life, people, and lightening in a bottle with this film. It is a shame he hasn't approach this level of screen writing since. and it makes fun of star wars nerds to open the film.
