Song of the Day – 12.18.09

Jamie Dull has been tweeting a Song a Day for the past half a year. To help celebrate Music Month on The Red Circle, we will be issuing glorified retweets of his daily output for your listening pleasure

Song: Arctic Monkeys – “Old Yellow Bricks”

About: Well I’m currently relying on YouTube links for my SOTD’s since twt.fm is down, however that’s ok. This song is a powerful piece that really displays what the Arctic Monkeys are all about. The bridge section with all of the quarter notes followed by drum fills is exceptional, and really dancy (not really a word). Let’s dance!

If you dig the arctic monkeys, I strongly urge you give their new one, HUMBUG a try. It’s a radical departure from what you’re used to from these guys, but producer Josh Homme brings the band an atmosphere and style that they’ve never come close to achieving on their own. Check out how well Alison Mosshart’s backing vocals work on “The Fire and the Thud.” It’s a phenomenal album.

I actually have that record. Once I heard that Josh was producing one of their albums, I immediately freaked out and got all excited like a little girl. You can actually hear a LOT of Josh Homme influence in that album, which I dig. The first three tracks are mind-blowing.
